NYC winter storm on the way? Forecaster details potential timing of system Sunday-Monday

An AccuWeather forecast.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A winter storm pushing down from Canada that will dip into the Tennessee Valley before hitting the Carolinas and barreling upward toward New York City has the potential to create a messy commute for Staten Islanders working on the holiday Monday, just days after accumulation on the borough created dangerous road conditions.

Forecasters are currently unsure how much accumulation could hit the five boroughs, but the timing of the system is a safer bet — with Sunday night the likely arrival time for the winter weather. From there, it is expected to last through Monday morning before winding down in the afternoon, said Bob Larson, a senior meteorologist with AccuWeather.
